Main Floor Information

Main floor living area:

Enter the square footage of the living area on the main floor. The living area does not include areas such as garages, porches or decks.

Main floor ceiling height:

Enter the main floor ceiling height. This is the distance in feet from the floor to the ceiling. The standard ceiling height is 8 feet, but they are often upgraded to 9' or 10'.

Decks

Uncovered Deck Area:

Enter the total area of deck on your home which will not be covered. A deck is typically raised off the ground with a wood structure supporting the floor.

Covered deck Area:

Enter the total area of deck on your home which will be covered by roof. A deck is typically raised off the ground with a wood structure supporting the floor.

Covered porch area:

This is the total area of all the porches on your home which will not have usable area underneath it. Porches are covered exterior areas which have a concrete floor. Deck area should be entered above.

Covered Porch w/ Cold Storage Under:

This is the total area of all the porches on your home which will have usable area underneath it. Often times the area underneath will be used for cold storage.

Basement

Will Your Home Have a Basement:

In many areas it is common to have a basement. A basement is living area which is below the main floor and typically below grade.

Slab on grade:

Will this be a slab on grade home? If you select "No" the program will calculate your home assuming it will have a crawl space or a basement. Slab on grade will calculate your main floor as concrete.

Walk out Basement:

If your lot slopes from front to back you can have a walk out basement. A walkout basement is where the basement floor is the same height as the backyard ground level.

Finished Area in Basement:

This is the total area in your basement which you intend to finish at the time you build.

Unfinished Area in Basement:

This is the area in your basement that will remain unfinished. Often people will not finish there basement at the time they build in order to keep the cost down, then they can finish at a later time.

Will Your Home Have a Garage:

What is the Square Footage of the Garage:

A typical two car garage is between 500 to 700 square feet. A typical three car garage is between 800 to 1200 square feet.

Garage Ceiling Height:

Typically your garage ceiling height for a home with a basement or a crawl space will be 1' taller than the main floor ceiling height. If you will have a slab on grade home the ceiling height is usually the same as the main floor.

How many garage doors will your garage have:

Enter the number of garage doors (large doors for car) your garage will have. Include lower garage doors for suspended garage.

Will the garage have a suspended floor:

Sometimes the area under the garage is used for living area or just a shop/garage area. If this is the case then the garage floor will have to be what is considered a suspended floor. The garage floor is constructed of reinforced concrete which is able to support the weight of the cars to be stored in the upper garage. Typically a standard garage is not suspended.

Floors

Will your home have loft living area:

Sometimes homes have living area which is built into the roof of the home. This usually called a loft.
